Bodegas Muga Rioja Reserva 2019
Located in the historic wine region of Haro, family winery Bodegas Muga is a premiere Rioja producer and has been since 1932. In line with tradition, Muga uses the finest oak throughout their winemaking practices and is one of the only wineries in Spain to have a private cooperage for barrels in-house. All processes are natural, leading to wines that are characteristic examples of the individual vineyards.
Aging and cellaring are crucial to the excellence of Muga. Their Reserva is aged carefully for 24 months in oak casks and then left to cellar for another 12 months before release. This leads to sensational aromas of fresh vanilla bean, prickly cedar, and warming baking spice. Robust red currant, crunchy cranberry, and wild strawberry bring a freshness to the wine without overpowering the subtleties. The tannins here are ripe but beautifully integrated and smooth.
Pair with a Sunday roast or robust tapas.
